It’s the final countdown! Dodoooo dodooooo dododododooooo!
So the website it’self got off to a bit of a bumpy start. For one, since we got told that we had the ability to take that mornings class online and start on our own. No one but myself and Sean showed up. He immediately flew through it of course and I couldn’t even really read the brief properly. I originally named a website after song lyrics, with a Baby Yoda image. But i didn’t realise that there had to actually be a strong focus in mind. So at a later date I started a new one, the one you will have been looking at- TalkAboutItAnyway.
I did have a bit of trouble with the site at first. For whatever reason, it did not save properly, so I had to restart again!
I couldn’t decide between just doing an advice website eg. mental health, or doing more hobby/interests kind of site so I just mashed the two together and the name came along with it.
One of the main things I wanted to talk about was mental health. As someone who has suffered with the topic for most of my life, I felt I needed to create a space for others and a place for me to put up information.
I wanted another advice section and was thinking “What is it that as a society, we are shunned from talking about?” which was when it hit me- sexual and feminine health. This would also help me as while doing research I would be learning also. As I stated in my smear tests piece, I, at 25, still felt extremely uneducated about the process. There are many other areas to discuss such a periods, sexual health, feminine hygiene products and sexuality.
I immediately have a footer in my site that states I am not an expert in any area I would be discussing. This is mostly just to cover that if I were to give incorrect information.
I then divulged more into personnel interests. I created a review section, mostly for books and movies/shows. The first one I wrote about was a double- It was about the book and newly released show of it- Normal People. I know from others that you can binge the series on streaming sites such as Hulu, which is why a lot of Americans found it and love it. I however, wait to watch it on the Rte Player. I have also yet to meet anyone who has read and or likes the book. So, with this, I did a double review with compare and contrast.
I then did a long piece for my Hobby section, focusing on my favourite game- Animal Crossing. I did a review of the previous games and the progress of the franchise.
I then moved onto my final section; Conspiracy theories. I used to be into these all the time when I was younger but they didn’t seem to be interested. It was when Youtuber Shane Dawson started doing videos on them that I got back into it all. I linked the video at the end just in case anyone wanted to watch it in it’s entirety.
I had a bit of technical difficulty with some of my longer pieces. I couldn’t add them directly so I had to copy and paste them into texts boxes.
I kind of wish I had gone more in depth job of the website like more pieces or social media accounts but I’m happy with what I’ve been able to do. I’m not someone who is good at technology so I never thought I’d be able to do things like make a blog or a website, so I’m pretty happy with what I’ve been able to achieve. I hope to go into online journalism and more so book editing and publishing so I think this was helpful to start getting into paying attention to details.
THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK!
